The allotment site is known as Bedminster Down C (or just Bed C) and is just off the A38 as shown in the Google map to the right. The entrance to the site is next to the Bristol Cattery. The entrance is gated and is only accessible if you have a key. Only members have keys so if you want to visit the site for a volunteer session then you will need to arrange that in advance by contacting us - please see Joining In for more details.
The plot is approximately 40 metres by 20 metres and includes some fenced areas, a pond, some sheds and other buildings, an area of semi-hard standing, and the main cultivation area.
We initially did a lot of clearance work, and we have rescued and re-erected a shed, and we have dug beds and made some pentagon shaped raised beds too. We also have a composting area made largely from rescued pallets. There are plans for lots of things afoot, and if you check the Progress page you’ll be able to see what we’ve done and what we’re doing next.
We have grown potatoes, sweetcorn, onions, garlic, shallots, runner beans, peas, beetroot, spinach, fennel, raspberries, to name a few things, and there’s lots more to come... Our latest (or close to it!) planting plan is available to download as a PDF here
